Thinking about what is happening in Palestine makes me feel so powerless, making art somehow gives me a sense that I can contribute to a struggle that is so far away. Knowing that what is happening in Palestine is not unlike what happens to Indigenous people on Turtle Island I have to stand up and make my voice heard how I know best. I see images of what is happening in Palestine and I think of all the Indigenous people here who have been through the same process of violence and removal from their lands, of all the people who stood up to fight settler colonial governments in hopes of saving a shred of their existence and history to pass onto the next generation. I hope that as an artist I can make a small contribution to the resistance movement that is working to end the blood shed by the Israeli government and to take back the ancestral lands that have been colonized by invaders. "Palestina Será Libre" (Palestine Will Be Free). I made this print in 2002 for a portfolio I was part of at Mission Grafica when I worked at MCCLA. While working there I learned a lot about Palestine and the way artist from Grafica have shown solidarity over the years, from Rene Castro to Jos Sances and my montor Juan R. Fuentes. It was very inspiring to see how artists can show solidarity and make pieces that speak to the people.
Some posters on the way to san francisco rally for Palestine… running a little late I’m glad we got them done. #screenprint #freepalestine #printmaking #dignidadrebelde
